Tietokauppiaat, joita kutsuttiin myös tiedonantajiksi, olivat yksityisiä konsultteja, salakuljettajia tai slaissereita, jotka myivät tietoja rahasta.

R2-D2 ja Chewbacca koettivat saada tietoja tietokauppiailta Nar Shaddaalla Durga Besadii Tain Tuhonmiekka-projektista, kuten myös amiraali Daalan salaperäisestä keisarillisesta laivastosta. Myös Talon Karrde oli tunnettu tietokauppias.
