Yavin 4 oli yksi kolmesta elinkelpoisesta kuusta, jotka kiersivät Yavin Primena tunnettua kaasujättiläistä. Suurin osa kuun pinnasta oli viidakkojen ja sademetsien peitossa, ja vaikka vain harvat tiesivät edes sen olemassaolosta, kuulla oli merkittävä rooli useissa galaksin historian huomattavissa tapahtumissa. Kuu toimi näyttämönä muiden muassa jediritari Exar Kunin langetessa Voiman pimeälle puolelle sithlordi Freedon Naddin opastuksella, siellä myös käytiin raju kaksintaistelu jedien ja sithien välillä Kloonisotien aikana. Kuu toimi myös Kapinaliiton tukikohtana Yavinin taistelussa, minkä lisäksi siellä käytiin muitakin taisteluita galaktisen sisällissodan aikana. Hyökkäys ensimmäistä Kuolemantähteä vastaan alkoi kuun pinnalta. Sodan loputtua Luke Skywalker sijoitti jediakatemiansa Yavin 4:ään.

Maantieto

Yavin 4:ssä oli sula, metallinen ydin, jota peitti paksu, vähäpiirteinen ja liikkumaton silikaattikuori. Ylimmäisenä oli neljä mannerta, jotka peittivät yhteensä kuusikymmentäseitsemän prosenttia kuun pinnasta. Suurin osa mantereista oli laajojen, trooppisten sademetsien ja viidakoiden peitossa. Kuusta löytyi kuitenkin myös joitakin vuoristoja, kuten Yunteh Mountais, joita hallitsivat Nicolo Peak ja Borundi Peak nimiset tulivuoret.

Yavin 4:ssä oli myös kuusi toisiinsa liittynyttä merta, jotka peittivät loput kolmekymmentäkolme prosenttia kuun pinnasta. Kuusta löytyi lisäksi vielä yksi sisämeri. Koska Yavin 4 oli suhteellisen nuori kuu, sillä oli huomattavasti geotermistä toimintaa. Suuret joet syöksyivät putouksina alas tulivuorten kasvattamilta rinteiltä ennen kuin soljuivat rauhallisemmin viidakkojen hallitseman tasaisemman maan halki.

Kun Wetyinin siirtokunnan sektoriin lähettämät tiedustelijat löysivät kuun, sen mantereet nimettiin Starloftiksi, Swivveniksi, Koosiksi ja Wetyiniksi. Kaikki siirtolaisten tiedustelijat kuitenkin lopulta poistuivat kuulta.

Historia

Massasit rakensivat Yavin 4:n temppelin, joka oli herkkä Voimalle. Tämä temppeli moninkertaisti henkilön Voiman. Massasit olivat rakentaneet tämän temppelin sitheille.

Yavin 4 toimi kapinallisten tukikohtana vuoteen 0 jYt asti. Kapinallisten mielestä Yavin 4 oli hyvä paikka tukikohdalle, sillä sademetsät antaisivat suojaa sille. Kapinaliitto kuitenkin hylkäsi tukikohdan pian Yavinin taistelun jälkeen uuden piilopaikan toivossa. Sen jälkeen Yavin 4 oli vain merkityksetön taivaankappale ennen kuin Luke Skywalker perusti sinne jediprakseuminsa.

Yavin 4 oli lähellä tuhoutumista, kun Kuolemantähti hyökkäsi sinne Imperiumin havaittua siellä kapinallistukikohdan. Kuolemantähden täytyi kuitenkin kiertää Yavin-planeetta, ennen kuin se olisi ampumaetäisyydellä. Kapinallisilla oli 30 minuuttia aikaa tuhota Imperiumin superase. Alkoi Yavinin taistelu, joka päättyi Kuolemantähden tuhoutumiseen ja kapinallisten voittoon.

Myöhemmim yuuzhan vongit valtasivat planeetan.
